Sarawak Performing Art Centre
Sarawak Performing Arts Centre β A Star Rises from Our Roots
As a Sarawakian designer, this project holds deep meaning for me.
I had the honour to reimagine the Sarawak Performing Arts Centre (SPACe) not only as a venue for performance, but as a living canvas of budaya, seni, dan identiti negeri kita.
π The Concept:
At the heart of this design is our iconic legacy β the majestic bumbung DUN lama, a symbol of strength and pride.
I retained this roofβs silhouette, but reinterpreted it into a 9-pointed star β each point representing the nine ethnic communities of Sarawak, bound together by art and unity.
This star then seamlessly transforms into a terendak, a traditional Sarawakian headgear β symbolising protection, heritage, and dignity.
This fusion of architecture and craft becomes more than just a logo β it is a cultural constellation.
π The Spirit Behind the Design:
-
Minimalist but monumental β clean lines that carry deep stories.
-
Modern yet rooted β balancing international appeal with indigenous soul.
-
Symbolic yet accessible β instantly recognisable, proudly Sarawakian.
Philosophy:
I believe branding bukan sekadar rupa β ia adalah satu naratif.
A visual identity must speak, feel, and honour β and that is what I aimed for with SPACe:
A place where legenda dan masa depan berdansa dalam cahaya pentas.
